Highlights from Build
May 30, 2023
Pieces for Developers made a strong showing at Microsoft Build 2023. As a Microsoft Copilot Partner, we are currently building and shipping new experiences to the 300 million monthly active users on Microsoft Teams. Pieces was mentioned multiple times in sessions at Microsoft Build, including in all three keynote addresses.
Here are some of the highlights of Pieces for Developers at Microsoft Build:
- Pieces for Developers was mentioned in all three keynote addresses. It’s a big milestone for a startup like ours to share the stage with much larger companies. It was great to see our logo up on the screen with businesses that we would love to work with!
Pieces for Developers had a live demo at Build! The session was about how developers could better use Microsoft Teams. It was well-attended, and many attendees were interested in learning more about Pieces. Check out what the app enables developers to do in Teams.
Pieces for Developers also received a shout-out from our friend Sebastian Holst. He hosted a pre-recorded a session on Collaboration by design in the age of AI and the modern workplace.
Microsoft Build was a great experience for the Pieces for Developers team. We were excited that our focus on building AI-powered experiences for developers directly in the tools that they love is consistent with the messaging and demos that were showcased throughout Build. We look forward to continuing to connect and collaborate with our Microsoft Partner peers by bringing their developers solutions that will help everyone to build better software.
Microsoft Build 2023
May 15, 2023
The Pieces Team is thrilled and humbled to attend Microsoft Build as a Partner Startup!
Over the past few months, along with our partners at Microsoft, we have developed a Microsoft Teams app that will greatly enhance a user’s ability to share code and other developer materials in Teams. This partnership brings the developer closer to Teams, and furthers our goal to facilitate saving, sharing, enriching, and reusing code between a developer’s favorite tools.
Pieces will be featured in a discussion of Managing world-class DevOps with Microsoft Teams. In this session, we will see how the new Teams App and the Pieces Desktop App work in harmony to capture context and enable great collaboration, comprehension, and searchability for even the most technical of organizations.
The Pieces team is excited to be attending in-person, as this year's Microsoft Build conference is expected to showcase the increasing adoption of AI-powered tools and platforms. AI plug-ins and extensions add new functionality to existing products, while custom integrations can be tailored to the specific needs of the application or use case.
If you are a Microsoft 365 customer or a Teams user, please download the Pieces for Developers Microsoft Teams App, now available on the Teams Store!

ONNX Runtime Microsoft Blog
February 8, 2023
Pieces for Developers featured on the Microsoft Open Source Blog, highlighting the partnership between ONNX Runtime (Microsoft) and Pieces.
We embed ML into all of our products to ensure full coverage of the developer workflow. Pieces needs to run these models from the desktop, terminal, integrated development environment, browser, and team communication channels.
ONNX Runtime emerged as the clear winner for an on-device model serving platform that would provide Pieces with low latency, privacy, and performance, while still giving machine learning engineers the flexibility that cloud serving offers. ONNX Runtime offers a standardized model optimization pipeline, and Pieces has used ONNX Runtime's convert generation.py tool to implement a T5 transformer model for code description generation. ONNX Runtime gracefully meets both performance and state-of-the-art machine learning model needs.

In-House ML + OpenAI’s GPT-4 Power AI in Pieces
February 1, 2023
When you save a code snippet to Pieces, our offline and on-device AI auto-enriches those developer materials. This makes it easier for our users to save, search, share, reference, and reuse their code snippets throughout their work-in-progress journey.
In an effort to continuously improve our in-product experiences, we quickly integrated with OpenAI’s GPT-3, GPT-3.5, and now GPT-4 APIs. This will give users who take advantage of our Blended ML Model option advanced AI capabilities that merge the best of our in-house ML with OpenAI’s. Language classifications, tags, descriptions, and related links will all receive a boost.
ChatGPT dramatically increases the volume of code written every day. With that, we are seeing a role-change in developer workflows, where there is not only an increased need to curate from these generated materials; but further, developers are needing to save, search, share, reference, and reuse the outputs of Generative AI like we've never seen before.

As a customer of GitHub Enterprise that utilizes many of their tools, the GitHub for Startups Team took notice of our work and extended an invitation to collaborate as a Partner Startup.
